For beginners who have just come into contact with the MDF industry, how can we effectively identify the quality of a MDF?
1、 Eyeshot
1. Surface cleanliness and flatness: When we get a medium density board, we first check whether there are obvious particles on its surface. If there are particles, it means that impurities were involved in the manufacturing process. Then we can check whether the surface is smooth from the side. If not, it means that there is a problem with the material or coating process.
2. Cross section: The length of sawdust particles at the center of the cross section is generally 5-10MM. Too long, loose structure, and too short, poor deformation resistance lead to the failure of static bending strength.
3. Color: The color of good MDF is generally white or yellowish. If the color turns dark brown, there may be quality problems.
2、 Hand touch
1. Smoothness: When we touch the surface of the MDF with our hands, if it feels smooth, it means that the MDF should be of good quality. If it feels astringent, it means that the processing is not in place.
2. Strength: We can lift one end of the MDF board and shake a few times. If the board is strong, it means that the quality of the board is good, and the poor board is easy to break. You can also feel the overall elasticity of the lower board. The low-quality MDF is generally hard.
3. We can press the board with our fingers or gently scratch the MDF with our nails. If we can’t press it down and a white mark appears after the scratch, the quality is good.
3、 Smell
We can ask about the smell of the board. If there is a reactive smell, it means that the formaldehyde content of the MDF exceeds the standard. Good boards do not have a reactive smell. We can also put the MDF in water for a while to see the degree of expansion in a short time to determine whether the MDF is good or bad.
