Australia may resume timber exports to China!
According to CNA, despite a series of obstacles to normalizing trade between the two countries, China and Australia have made progress in restoring Australia’s timber exports to China.
It is understood that Australia is the eighth largest producer of logs globally and the second largest exporter of particleboard products nationwide. As one of Australia’s pillar industries, Australian timber contributed 0.5% of the country’s total GDP from 2017 to 2018, approximately $9.2 billion. Australia exports approximately 1.6 billion Australian dollars (approximately 1.067 billion US dollars) and 4 million tons of logs and pulpwood to China annually. Exports to China account for approximately 90% of Australia’s timber exports.
