Many customers who use the automatic edge banding machine will inevitably encounter unsatisfactory edge banding effect. There are various reasons for this. Problems with equipment, edge banding tape and hot melt adhesive are possible. Here are some possible reasons for reference.
01 Quality of hot melt adhesive Hot melt adhesive shall ensure good adhesion under low pressure, instant bonding under short-term pressure, and firm bonding. During the edge sealing process, it is also necessary to ensure that the temperature of the hot melt adhesive is within the normal temperature range. Too low temperature will lead to poor fluidity of the hot melt adhesive, and too high temperature will lead to too thin adhesive, thus reducing the viscosity of the adhesive.
02 Quality of edge banding The quality of edge banding also affects the edge banding effect. The edge banding of good quality is tightly bonded to the finished edge banding. The edge banding of poor quality has large gaps at the finished edge banding. The edge banding cannot be completely adhered to the board, and the edge banding effect is not good.
03 Edge banding is more difficult if the edge banding material is rich in grease, because oily substances will reduce the affinity between the plate and the hot melt adhesive, reduce the viscosity of the hot melt adhesive, and the edge banding is easy to fall off over a long period of time.
04 Water content of solid wood edge banding For manufacturers using solid wood edge banding materials, attention should be paid to the fact that the water content of the edge banding should not be too high, especially in the humid places in the south, and the edge banding should be stored in a cool and dry room. Generally speaking, the optimal moisture content is between 8-10%. If the moisture content is too high, the bonding strength of hot melt adhesive will be reduced.
05 Ambient temperature During edge banding, ensure that the ambient temperature is not too low, which may lead to insufficient flexibility of the edge banding belt. Especially for thick edge banding, if the temperature is too low, the affinity for adhesive will decrease, and the storage time is long, the adhesive strength of edge banding to adhesive will decrease. Generally speaking, the temperature shall be above 15 ℃, and the preheating device shall also be ensured to work normally when the edge banding machine is working.
06 In terms of equipment, first of all, the overall quality of the equipment should be up to standard. In addition, the equipment has been used for a long time, and it is inevitable that there will be some small problems. Therefore, each time you seal the edge, you should try a piece of plate first. Check whether the gluing roller and the belt feed are well matched (poor matching may lead to uneven gluing or glue shortage), whether the trimming function is normal, whether the trimming knife is worn, etc.
07 Feeding speed At present, the feeding speed of the automatic edge banding machine is mostly between 12-20m/min, of course, there are also higher speeds. However, it should be noted that we should not blindly pursue high speed in order to improve production efficiency. We need to adjust it according to the edge bonding strength. If the speed is too fast and the edge bonding strength is too low, the edge bonding effect is likely to decline.
