The Difference Between Hardwood Flooring, Laminate Flooring & Engineered Hardwood

Not everyone is a flooring expert, and making a decision between hardwood, laminate, and engineered flooring can be confusing. Grand Floors is here to end that unrest and put a stop to the confusion.

  • Hardwood flooring is created from a single plank of wood and is appropriate for installation in any above ground room in the house. Solid hardwood cannot be installed directly on concrete. The moisture generated from the concrete in a Canadian climate can cause it to expand.
  • Engineered hardwood is composed of a number of plywood and block layers making a subfloor unnecessary, and is appropriate for any floor in any home or condominium.
  • Laminate flooring is synthetic wood flooring, which means it is not even wood at all. Even though the core of laminate is not real wood, all of our laminate choices provide a real wood aesthetic.
